11/06/07 VietNam in top 20 software outsourcing nationsVietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam’s software outsourcing industry is booming, with annual average growth rate of around 40% in the past five years. As a result, Vietnam is in the top 20 nations for software outsourcing.
Last year the software industry yielded more than US$350 million, including $110 million from exports. There are 750 software firms in Vietnam, employing around 35,000 workers. Big firms have 500 to 1,000 workers. Around 150 companies are involved in software outsourcing with an average number of 100 to 150 workers.
The software industry aims to maintain a growth rate of 35-40% per year from now to 2010, earning turnover from $800 million to $1 billion, bringing Vietnam into the top 15 nations for software outsourcing and export.
Vietnam’s IT sector is now in the same situation as India’s 20 years ago. To develop, the industry can’t rely on low labour costs, but needs to have a high-quality human resources training strategy, according to experts at a workshop on software outsourcing held in HCM City last week.
